√Easy to make
If you’re craving the taste of a BBQ but only have 30 minutes, this Chili dog recipe will hit the spot!
The Basic Ingredients:
• 1 can Chili or a couple cups of left-over chili
• 1 package Hot Dog buns
• Hot Dogs for your famiy
• Shredded Cheese, for topping
• ½ cup chopped Onion, for topping (optional)
For a family of 2 adults and 1 toddler, you’ll need at least 4 hot dogs. I like to use bun-length hot dogs for this kind of recipe.
Put Hot Dogs in a pan large enough to lay them side by side. Cover with water (no need to fill enter pan). Bring to a boil. Boil hot dogs for 5 minutes.
**If unused Hot Dogs are not in a reseal-able bag, place in a freezer bag and put in fridge.
While Hot Dogs are boiling, open chili and pour into a bowl. Cover with plastic wrap. Vent plastic wrap or poke a few holes with a fork. Set aside.
Line a plate with a couple of paper towels.
When Hot Dogs are done boiling, gently place them on paper-towel lined plate. Empty pan and wipe it out. Pat Hot Dogs dry.
Place pan over Medium to Medium-High heat. If not using a non-stick skillet, add a little oil or a tablespoon of butter. Let oil or butter spread around pan.
While pan is heating, taking a sharp knife and slice the casing of each hot dog. Place hot dogs in pan. Hot Dogs will brown and expand.
Throw away paper towel from plate. Leave plate out.
While Hot Dogs are browning, put Chili in microwave for time listed on can (usually a couple of minutes).
Decide if you want toasted Hot Dog Buns. Most toasters will fit Hot Dog Buns – if yours does, start toasting. If yours doesn’t, wait for next step.
When Hot Dogs are browned to your liking, place them on plate.
If Toaster didn’t fit Buns, split them open and place on hot pan until toasted to your liking
Set out onions, cheese, chili, buns and Hot Dogs.
Serve with chips or veggies (like carrot sticks).
